Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 7 Surgical Nurse Practitioner within the Cardiothoracic Surgical team, this team have held an excellent reputation for their specialist services which have been, successfully established for 25 years. The team have been paramount to the care and safety of the Cardiothoracic Surgical patients, within and outside of the North East region and cover two pre and post-operative surgical wards and a pre-admission clinic on a rotation.

The post holder will need to be an excellent communicator and a role model for junior members of the wider team. You will need to be able to balance the clinical and non-clinical aspects of the role and therefore well-developed prioritisation and time management skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join a dynamic and clinically focused team who have a wealth of knowledge and skills and are looking for someone to add their skills to the team. The post holder would beresponsible for clerking, assessing and providing high quality clinical care, to patient both regionally and nationally whilst working alongside the medical team making decisions on patient pathways.

The role also has a strategic aspect and the post holder will be expected to bring new ideas to the table,support and lead innovative developments both within the team and the wider unit to enhance the patient experience. In the role you will provide strongvisible leadership to the nursing and support teams. This will include undertaking some clinical and managerial work within the team under the supervision of the Team Lead.

The post holder will need to be an excellent communicator and a role model for junior members of the wider team. You will need to be able to balance the clinical and non-clinical aspects of the role and therefore well-developed prioritisation and time management skills are essential.

This role would suit a Band 7 Nurse Practitioner already working at this level and all candidates must ensure they meet the essential criteria for the role before applying.

  • To deliver a quality of service matching clinical need to available resources within the focus of specialist nursing practice:o To ensure that the patient is the central focus of a streamlined patient journey ensuring optimal quality of care.o Working as a nurse practitioner, provide a prompt response to calls from colleagues, prioritising importance and clinical need.o Manage own caseload to include assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment within defined parameters and training.o Provide immediate care management of patient including communication of plan to patients and significant others.o Review and refer to appropriate person, e.g. AHP, resident medical staff, specialist registrar or critical care outreach team.o Liaising with Patient Services Coordinator where necessary.o Communicate within multidisciplinary team, ward/departmental staff and/or out of hours team.o Provide specialist education and training to departmental nursing staff, nursing and medical students.
