Applications are invited for full time Band 3 Laboratory Genomics Co-ordinators (Data Co-ordinators) in the Newcastle Genetics Laboratories.
The Newcastle Genetics laboratories form part of the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub.In response to NHS England's recent Strategy and Service Specification for the future of Genomics services in England, Newcastle Hospitals, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children's Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals have formed the Yorkshire and North East Genomics Laboratory Hub; an exciting collaboration to provide services for Genomics across Yorkshire and Humber and the North. The combined size of our geography makes this the largest collaboration in the country with the Trusts offering a range of both general and specialist hospital services with excellent clinical outcomes for patients. We have an international reputation for excellence in specialist care, research and academic training.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be motivated and reliable individuals and will join a diverse team of clinical, scientific, admin and informatics staff in the Newcastle Genetics Laboratory based at the Centre for Life.
Key roles will be supporting the clinical scientist team in all aspects of administration associated with patient referrals, this will include liaising with other genomics centres as well as local referrers.
Previous administrative experience, excellent communication, a high degree of computer literacy, precise and accurate data entry, team working and organisational skills are essential.

The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the Genomics Coordinator role and its purpose within the Newcastle Genetics Laboratory; they are not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake additional or alternative administrative duties and responsibilities commensurate with the level of the post, to support the smooth running of the department.
- Act as a first point of contact for service users, answering telephone calls and responding to emails in an accurate and timely way, escalating queries to a clinical scientist where required.
- Database use as required to determine if samples have been received/reports ready
- Liaising with clinicians and their secretaries where necessary to obtain complete and accurate referral information.
- Creating and sending of DNA storage and rejection letters
- Maintain accuracy in data transfer and carry out routine checks of sample and data transfer by other staff.
- Preparation of documentation required in the export of samples to 3rd party laboratories.
- Archive and/or scan paper filing of clinical referrals, reports and other laboratory documents.
- Collaborate with other members of the department to achieve an effective and reliable service.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by line manager
