Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Neuropsychology service based at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Consultant Neuropsychologist. You will work into the cognitive clinic which is a joint Neurology and Neuropsychology clinic. The purpose of the cognitive clinic is to assess patients with cognitive disorders including degenerative conditions. You will provide specialist neuropsychological assessment, formulation and opinion in relation to diagnosis of conditions including dementia. Offering advice and consultation on patient's neuropsychological care to colleagues from other disciplines and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

This post is located in the Psychology in Healthcare service which is a large supportive department, with opportunities for CPD, and high-quality supervision. You will provide supervision to psychology colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post are: delivering a high-quality neuropsychology service for patients referred to the cognitive clinic and their families; administering and interpreting neuropsychological tests to inform hypothesis in relation to diagnosis and formulation; sharing sensitive and highly emotive information with patients and families; offering psychological support at the point of diagnosis; sharing information with other professionals; report writing and onward referrals as needed.

Being responsible within the neuropsychology service for the cognitive clinic and related referrals, the post holder will have excellent leadership skills and adhere to clinical governance guidelines, both at a local trust and national level. They will ensure that they maintain a satisfactory level of CPD and continue to develop their expert role as well as the service. They will routinely evaluate the service and report back to stakeholders.

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, including specifically, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
  • HCPC Registration.

  • Has a track record of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Post qualification experience of working across the lifespan with people with neurological disorders.
  • Experience of specialist neuropsychological assessment, formulation and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, and in-patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of people with neurological and /or genetic conditions, with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Has a significant amount of consolidated post qualification experience and application of specialist neuropsychological assessment, formulation and treatment of patients in health care services.
  • In addition to obtaining the necessary qualifications and experience to practice as a clinical psychologist, has additional knowledge of national good practice of working as a neuropsychologist and a clinical psychologist.
