We are recruiting an Estates Net Zero Project Lead to join our Sustainability Team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital's NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an incredibly exciting time to join the trust following the commitment by our executive team being the first NHS trust to declare a climate emergency. The post holder will lead a specialised team of sustainability engineers to develop and deliver a multiyear plan, meeting the ambitions of the trusts net zero targets. The organisation's commitment reflects growing evidence of the negative health impacts of climate change and air pollution and is recognition that it is not enough for the NHS to treat the problems caused by air pollution and climate change - from asthma to heart attacks and strokes - it needs to play a part in tackling them at source. This builds on the existing sustainability & Net Zero commitments in the NHS Long Term Plan.

Main duties of the job
As an Estates Net Zero Project Lead, the post holder work as part of a dynamic team and will work closely with operational and strategic colleagues to support managers and staff across all of our buildings and infrastructure to deliver on our ambition to achieve a Net Zero Carbon Estate by 2030.
We are seeking a highly motivated professional who can support the work of the Estates Net Zero Delivery Manager to deliver key estates decarbonisation projects. The post holder will have highly developed knowledge and experience of the delivery of low/zero carbon technology projects and hospital building services engineering.

- Responsible for working with the Estates Net Zero Project Manager to support the development of the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital Estate Decarbonisation Strategy in line with the Trusts ambition of achieving net zero carbon by 2030 and the NHS Estates Net Zero Delivery Plan.
- To act as a Champion for the transition of the Estate to Low, and Zero, Carbon technologies being an advocate for the work of the Estates Net Zero team inspiring and engaging with colleagues across the organisation to support the Estates Decarbonisation Strategy.
- Developing and leading projects in connection the with decarbonisation of the Trust Estate including technical planning, providing cost estimations, developing Business Cases and funding bids, technical, analysis, operational planning and monitoring for relevant projects and initiatives.
- Work with the Estates Sustainability Team to undertake assessments of sustainability and environmental impact, using a range of measures, including LEED, BREEAM, WELL Standard, Home Quality Mark, Passivhaus, Living Building Challenge and bespoke sustainability frameworks.
- Bridge the gap between design and reality undertaking energy audits, post occupancy evaluations, operational energy modelling, calibrated energy modelling and Design for Performance / NABERS UK analysis.
- Prepare reports on sustainability and building physics to accompany Planning Applications as well as design and construction stage reports.
- To act as a source of technical knowledge on the existing site infrastructure to support the development of technical proposals whilst reducing the demand on the Operations & Maintenance Teams.
- To communicate the Estates Net Zero Team achievements internally and externally across various digital platforms.

- Be qualified to Degree or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge gained through experience, in an electrical engineering or related building services subject with significant relevant post qualification experience
- Masters or equivalent level specialist knowledge and experience of complex engineering services in a healthcare environment

- o Registered as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council
