Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for inspirational and motivated clinicians and trainees (t-ACPs) to join our growing Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) team at the Great North Trauma and Emergency Care Centre based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. You will have extensive experience of working in an ED or emergency care pathway setting, as a Senior Nurse or AHP and the ambition to commit to a three-year training programme (MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice).

Developing advanced clinical assessment skills, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload and assessing, treating, referring and discharging patients in your care, with full support from the senior medical workforce, where required.

Working under supervision, you will develop advanced knowledge and skill to meet the capabilities presented in the multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England. It is expected that the trainee's level of autonomy will increase to the point of independent practice within Emergency Medicine.

If you are an existing, fully qualified ACP, you will be appointed as a Band 8a and will undergo an assessment period. Other successful applicants would be appointed as Band 7 until the completion of the three-year training programme. We would also welcome trainee ACPs who are part-way through their training who are looking to move to Newcastle.

Main duties of the job

The clinician will use advanced knowledge and skills in to undertake clinical assessments, make decisions based on clinical reasoning and initiate, evaluate and modify a range of interventions. They will also provide professional senior clinical leadership and support within the ED multi professional team.

The role of trainee ACP involves a programme of academic and work-placed based education, supported by an Educational Supervisor. This will ultimately result in credentialing with The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM). You will be expected and supported to complete an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, undertaking a range of clinically focused modules in line with the requirements for the role, including independent prescribing and clinical skills (if not already held).
