Job summary

Working within a small multi-disciplinary team, the chosen applicant will help maintain the building services infrastructures for The Newcastle Hospital Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit an Engineering Technician to join the Estates Operational Team.
  • The successful candidate will join a team of Technicians responsible for the maintenance, repair and validation of over 180+ Dental chairs as well as associated equipment such as: Lights, Spittoons, Amalgam Separators, bracket tables, etc.
  • Applicants must demonstrate flexibility and initiative when dealing with a wide range of engineering services and will have experience maintaining equipment as part of a planned preventative maintenance program.
  • Applicants must have served a recognised apprenticeship in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and have post-apprenticeship experience. Previous experience within an Acute Hospital is desirable.
  • The successful candidate will have good communication skills and is expected to work with various levels of staff across the Trust.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide a comprehensive technical service in respect of the maintenance, repair, installation, validation and testing of sterilisers, dental, podiatry and decontamination equipment throughout the Trusts properties, PCT properties and approximately 40+ dental clinics.

Candidates must have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship, be self-motivated with a desire to develop new skills and flexible to meet the demands of a large acute hospital.

Specialist training and support will be provided where necessary with the the chosen candidates required to develop into a skilled maintenance technician who may be required to:

  • Carry out planned & reactive repairs to over 180+ Dental chairs as well as associated equipment such as: Lights, Spittoons, Amalgam Separators, bracket tables, etc. All equipment is of a varied range of manufacturers, age profile & clinical function.
  • X-ray equipment
  • Dental Carts
  • Lab equipment such as: Extraction Units, Curators, Bunsen Burners, etc.
  • External clinics
  • Central & Local Compressed Air & VAC Plant
  • Simulation Units
  • Hand piece motors
  • Mechanical & Electrical Reactive repairs
  • Maintain CPD & Manufacturer Training
  • Appointed as CP (Dental) in accordance with healthcare HTM guidance documentation.
