Job summary

The role of the successful applicant, within our Trust-wide Pharmacy Team, is to oversee all aspects of the day-to-day running of the Pharmacy storeroom(s).

The applicant will work under the guidance of the Trustwide Stores & Distribution Manager and will provide support and direction to Pharmacy Supervisors & Assistants as required. The successful candidate will be integral to the reviewing of current practices, will be involved in the discussion of service effectiveness and the implementation of new methods of working.

The role will require the successful applicant to have high mental acuity and physical stamina in a fast paced environment where ability to quickly & efficiently adapt to change is a necessity.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to work weekends, weekday late duties and bank holidays on a rotational basis to support the 7 day service.

Some experience in Pharmacy would be desirable although not essential as training will be given.

Main duties will include:

  • Responsible for the receipt of goods into the Pharmacy Stores
  • Overseeing the assembly & delivery of medicines to wards/departments of the Trust
  • Ensuring the effective processing of medicines returned from wards and departments
  • Effective deployment of staffing resource to meet service requirements and to safeguard the welfare of all staff.
  • First point of referral for any specific staffing issues. The Pharmacy Stores team is increasing its hours/days of operation and the successful post holder will be required to liaise with the Stores & Distribution Manager and Specialist Lead Technician to facilitate this service expansion.
  • Checking stock to ensure good stock control & pharmaceutical best practice
  • Liaise with other members of the Stores senior team and effectively communicate information to ensure that the entire team is aware of changes to current practice.
  • Work closely with the Senior Technician for the NuTH Omnicell cabinet system to enable the ongoing upkeep of current cabinets and to prepare for the rollout of new cabinets.

  • To ensure that the receipt of all goods through & all goods selected for onward distribution from the Pharmacy Stores are picked in accordance with procedures.
  • To ensure medicinal products and other products located in the Pharmacy Stores are stored in a safe and secure manner.
  • Advise clinical and technical pharmacy staff on relevant issues concerning stock availability.
  • To work in partnership with Supervisors to ensure stock levels in the Pharmacy Stores are appropriate.
  • Act as a super user for the Pharmacy Stores robot.
  • To take the lead in reviewing and amending ward profiles including using the Omnicell system to update &/or amend Omnicell cabinet stock levels
