Our purpose built Critical Care Units have state of the art equipment:Ward 21 Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit based at the Freeman Hospital is a 16 bedded ITU and 6 bedded HDU. We care for patients following heart and lung transplantation, routine and emergency cardiothoracic surgery and patients following cardiology procedures.

Main duties of the job

Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward/department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.

This role incorporates equipment maintenance, monitoring and ordering of department stock items, assisting registered nurses with the provision of patient care, assistance in administration and clerical duties.

  • Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward / department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.
  • To abide by Trust policies and procedures
  • To assist the registered nurses (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care and report any concerns regarding the patients condition to the qualified nurse.
  • Maintain patients privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
  • Be an effective part of the multi-disciplinary team contributing to the departmental objectives.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors. Actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward / Department Job

Essential

  • Ability to maintain and improve knowledge, skills and competence to ensure high standards of patient care
  • Ability to meet basic care needs of patients.
  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Basic knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control

Desirable

  • Understanding of basic food hygiene concepts
  • Understanding of basic safeguarding
  • An understanding of working in the NHS

SKILLS

Essential

  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to be responsible for own development, identifying training needs, set personal objectives and attend appropriate training as agreed by line manager
  • Ability to initiate emergency action when required e.g. Cardiac arrest, Fire.
