This Trust Doctor post in Anaesthesia at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust is available ASAP until 30th September 2024.
The post will aim to provide CT3 "top-up" experience required to demonstrate the learning outcomes of Stage 1 of the RCoA 2021 Anaesthetics Curriculum. The successful candidates will work on our emergency, trauma (1st call/ Emerald) and obstetric on call rotas. Depending on previous clinical experience, it may be possible to work on our senior trainee/2nd call tier. There will be an opportunity to work in all areas of clinical anaesthesia during this post (see job description).
Full GMC registration and Anaesthesia Core level training certificate are required at time of application; these posts are not suitable for MTI programme sponsorship.

Main duties of the job
These posts are at CT3 level and successful candidates will be expected to have 24 months of prior Anaesthesia Core or ACCS training (including 3 - 6 months in intensive care) and to be competent to work with indirect supervision.
The posts are designed to be suitable for a CT3 "top-up". Successful candidates will be able to gain experience in all areas of practice including general anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, paediatric anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and obstetrics. Out of hours on call will be on our emergency, trauma (Emerald) and obstetric rotas

Clinical Anaesthesia
The post holder will take part in a full shift rota, along with other trainees, which provides 24-hour care for patients undergoing surgery including weekend and night shifts
This includes
- Working as part of the anaesthesia team in a variety of surgical specialties with direct and indirect supervision from consultant anaesthetists, appropriate to level of experience
- Participation in resident on call rotas, including evening and night shifts on delivery suite providing anaesthesia and analgesia for labour and operative delivery or in emergency theatres providing anaesthesia for trauma and emergency surgery

- Compliance with trust and departmental protocols and guidelines
Research:
- There are no specific research duties in this post, however there may be opportunities to take part in ongoing clinical research within the department
Teaching:
- The department has a strong teaching commitment to junior doctors
There is both formal and informal training as well as educational supervision and guidance for the postholder provided in each attachment.
- Formal study leave to attend relevant regional and national courses, (allocation the same as for regional trainees) with reimbursement of expenses (according to the Trust policy and up to the annual limit) also provided.
- A number of educational sessions are provided, there is also access to the departmental, Trust and regional teaching and courses, such as preparation for FRCA examinations
