Advanced Clinical Pharmacist

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

We have an opportunity for an experienced Clinical Pharmacist to join our Medicines Information (MI) team. You will work closely with the Principal Pharmacist for Medicines Information to assist in the day-to-day running of the MI service, support the MI training of our rotational clinical and trainee pharmacy staff and actively contribute to service planning and development opportunities. You will also have a regular ward-based clinical pharmacy commitment in an area relevant to experience and according to service needs, to maintain an active link between our MI and clinical services. This predominantly MI-based post will be ideal for someone with an established hospital clinical pharmacy background who would like the challenge of applying their clinical skills in a different setting.

Based at Framlington Place next to the Royal Victoria Infirmary main site, our local MI service provides information and advice for staff and patients across the entire trust and affiliated services, and includes a patient helpline. We work closely with our clinical and operational pharmacy colleagues, and provide professional support for the Pharmacy Procurement and Homecare teams in the absence of the Senior Procurement Pharmacist. We also have an excellent working relationship with the clinical directorates and other support services within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You must have extensive experience as a hospital-based Clinical Pharmacist, demonstrable communication and time management skills, and an aptitude for problem-solving. You will be providing highly specialist medicines-related information and advice to a diverse range of staff and patients, so the ability to communicate complex information effectively both verbally and in writing at varying levels is essential. As part of your MI role you will also be engaged in regular proactive work, including producing patient information material, management of intranet content, and contribution to pharmacy and clinical guidelines. In the clinical setting you will provide face-to-face patient-centred care at ward level and may attend multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds as need dictates. You should be able to work alongside and provide support for clinical pharmacy staff of all grades, including mentoring and supervision for staff undertraining clinical diplomas and other training. You will contribute to MI and clinical projects and service developments and should be able to work well alone or as part of a team. Formal experience of medicines information services is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided in-house and via enrolment on the UKMI training programme if not already completed.
