Job summary
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated ambitious individual to join a well-integrated multi-disciplinary team of clinicians dedicated to the provision of high quality secondary and tertiary level care for women with gynaecological and specifically urogynaecological problems. Applicants for this 10PA post must have a certificate of completion of specialist training and have completed an accredited subspecialty training programme in urogynaecology or be within 6 months of completion.
There are 10 Consultant Gynaecologists, including a subspecialist urogynaecologist and a gynaecologist with a urogynaecology interest, working within the department that is part of a wider Women's Health Directorate. The Newcastle Urogynaecology/Urology collaboration bid successfully to become one of the NHS England commissioned Mesh Centres, established to deal with mesh injured patients. This subspecialist Urogynaecologist appointment is an expansion to our team to help deliver and develop existing secondary, tertiary and quaternary services in line with service needs and individuals' areas of interest and expertise.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a highly motivated gynaecologist to join a team of medical staff, nurses, and managers who are dedicated to the provision of high quality secondary and tertiary level care for women with gynaecological problems.
The Department of Gynaecology in Newcastle is one of the foremost in the country with a reputation for clinical excellence, a high clinical throughput and an active research programme.
The appointee will be expected to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to them and to undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of their patients and in relation to the running of the Department of Gynaecology in co-operation with the Head of Department and Clinical Director.

Managerial
- Provide expert opinion on patients with gynaecological problems and take independent responsibility for their clinical care.
- Manage general gynaecology and the acute service. Undertake operating lists at the RVI/DTC. Provide the appropriate post-operative care for these patients.
- Contribute to the general organisation and running of the Gynaecology services within the Trust, working in close collaboration with colleagues.
- Participate in the departmental on-call for general gynaecology with a 1 in 10 rota.
- Assist the Heads of Department, Directorate Manager and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints working to provide reports within the timeframe set out by Trust policy
- Undergo Continued Medical Education (CME) in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG)
- Participate fully in all aspects of Clinical Governance including audit and risk management.
- Undertake an appraisal.

- Active involvement in the clinical supervision of all postgraduate trainees in the department with specific responsibility for a small number of individuals as educational supervisor under the direction of the college tutor.
