Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Logistics and Inventory Management team as Inventory Manager.

You will be working alongside the Logistics Manager, both reporting into the Supply Chain Development Lead. Together you will line manage and lead a team of Logistics and Inventory Team Leaders; enhancing relationships within the Procurement and Supply Chain Directorate, external organisations and suppliers, and within the wider Trust.

You will have knowledge and experience of inventory management and its application within the public sector. This knowledge must be underpinned by theory and experience.

You will have excellent IT skills and be proficient with all aspects of Microsoft Office 365, including Excel where you would have built, analysed and then reported a diverse range of datasets.

You will be a full member of CIPS or have the equivalent experience and academic ability for the demands of the post.

You will be able to demonstrate experience of managing programmes of work and participating in working groups to achieve defined outcomes.

Demonstrable experience and understanding of the NHS procurement landscape would be an advantage but is not essential.

Main duties of the job

  • To jointly oversee and manage four teams of Inventory Management and Logistics Officers who are responsible for the ordering, receipt, distribution and storage of medical consumables related to RVI and Freeman Hospital clinical activity.
  • To manage the department's various reporting workstreams including representing the department at internal and external operational meetings.
  • Ensure departmental policies and procedures are updated and harmonised alongside those of other Procurement and Supply Chain functions.
  • Ensure that targets are met by the teams in respect of all inventory activities.
  • Ensure that goods ordered are progressed and delivered to the requisitioning departments in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that invoice queries relating to orders placed are resolved satisfactorily within set target times.
  • Ensure effective communication between requisitioning departments and the teams.
  • Ensure a safe, value for money, comprehensive high-quality service is provided, whilst managing a busy and demanding workload.

  • An appropriate Professional Purchasing qualification, NVQ 4 (Purchasing), CIPS, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of professional inventory management principles acquired through degree or Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), plus expertise in Logistics and Inventory Management obtained via further training and experience or equivalent.

Desirable

  • European Computer Driving Licence qualification
  • Project Management Qualification (such as, PRINCE2 practitioner) or equivalent experience

Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant experience in the Supplies Department of a large complex organisation, preferably within the NHS.
  • Experience at developing and managing relationships within a complex environment.
  • Experience of analysing information and demand data to support decision making.
  • Experience of identifying service improvements and supporting appropriate change
  • Experience of day-to-day line management of staff and staff development and mentoring.
  • Experience of working to both agreed individual and team targets.
