We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. The Emergency Surgeon are part of a new initiative to improve the quality of care for acute admissions. In addition, you will be expected to have an interest in service development, surgical education, training and/or endoscopy.
The emergency general surgery provision will be 1:6 for General Surgery day time and weekends. There will subspecialty on call alongside the emergency general surgeon.
You must be able to work effectively and efficiently with a team, managing patients with emergency presentations. You will also work closely with a surgical nurse practitioner on the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU).
It is favourable if the successful candidate has a track record of medical education and training, both at undergraduate and post-graduate level. You will be encouraged to provide service innovation with a view to develop new services and further clinical education and lead training activities of the Department. Formal education qualifications are desirable.
Main duties of the job
Lead a specific clinical area of EGS Surgery.
To manage clinics both for general surgery and EGS (hot clinics) as well elective day case theatre lists
Participate in all aspects of clinical governance making a significant contribution to multidisciplinary audit and risk management activities.
Assist the Surgical Services Directorate Manager and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints - working to provide reports within the timeframe set out by Trust policy.
To contribute to the general organisation and running of EGS surgical services within the Trust, working in collaboration with colleagues.
To efficiently manage the teaching and training programmes, lead undergraduate teaching, educational focus groups, ARCP panels, recruitment, allocating educational supervision, leading Foundation School visits, managing rota gaps and responding to GMC and HEENE surveys.
