Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen for an associate practitioner to join the moving and handling team at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital Trust. The postholder will work flexibly across the Trust delivering training sessions to staff, to different group sizes and using various formats.

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, compassionate, motivated and organised individual. The ideal candidate will have experience in moving and handling in a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate should enjoy working alone and as part of a small team. The postholder will work flexibly across the Trust delivering training sessions to staff, to different group sizes and using various formats.

The post holder may be required to assist staff with non complex patient assessments . The post holder will also be responsible for assisting with moving and handling compliance monitoring programmes amongst other relevant duties. The post holder will demonstrate an ability to work independently when required and prioritise their own caseload.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work alongside the moving and handling team members to deliver a high standard moving and handling service, the post holder must be comfortable delivering training sessions to groups of all sizes and with various levels of moving and handling backgrounds and knowledge.

The post holder will need to be able to demonstrate moving and handling equipment.

Part of the role will include admin and non-clinical tasks.

Attributes will include being flexible, honest, reliable and willing to learn.

Skills required will include IT skills, Moving and Handling, highly developed communication and effective team working.

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the moving and handling team in the efficient and effective delivery of moving and handling of patients within NUTH
  • To deliver moving and handling training sessions to staff e.g., as part of Trust induction process, mandatory training updates etc.
  • To accept a caseload referred by a moving and handling coordinator according to specific criteria. To assess patients according to set protocols, monitoring patient progress, modifying and progressing plans as required, with referral back to moving and handling coordinators as/when appropriate
  • To carry out basic assessment and treatment of non-complex patients as delegated by the moving and handling coordinator (to include basic moving and handling and mobility protocols)
  • To provide and deliver individualised moving and handling programmes
  • To accurately record moving and handling as per Trust documentation databases such as learning lab
  • To work without supervision for at least 50% of the time within protocols and guidelines set by the designated moving and handling coordinator
  • To coordinate, supervise and teach moving and handling techniques
