Job summary

The NENC Renal Network seeks to appoint a regional psychosocial lead to develop renal specific policies including best practice, staff upskilling training programmes and psychological referral pathways which can be applied equitably across the North East and North Cumbria region.

We believe this would be best provided by an experienced psychologist, with experience of pathway and training programme development, hosted at a psychological department in the region. Initially funded for 12 months, it is hoped that this collaboration will at a minimum, produce a training programme which can be rolled out by the Renal Network across the region to upskill all renal healthcare staff to a minimum of NICE level-2 psychological care, in line with the recommendations of the NHSE Renal Services Transformation Programme. It is also hoped that this work will serve as a foundation to developing an all-encompassing regional policy for psychological care to renal patients in all renal units in the region, including setting best practice, staffing level recommendations, referral pathway guidelines, renal staff psychological skillset expectations with associated progressive staff training programmes.

  • Interview Date 10/01/2024
  • 15 Hours/Week

Main duties of the job

As the first Renal Network in the country to set out this ambition, there is a great deal of interest in the outcomes of this work, at a regional and national level, with NHSE, the ICB, Academic institutions and Kidney Research UK all expressing an interest to collaborate. Therefore, this ambitious programme has the potential to set the standard for renal mental health provision across the UK.
