Job summary

The Imaging Physics & Radiation Safety Unit of the Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Directorate is looking for a high calibre healthcare scientist with MR Physics experience to fill this fixed term post.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing team to contribute to developing MR Physics services to clinical users. The department delivers services both to Newcastle Hospitals and to a range of external clients, and is also actively involved in teaching and training as part of the national Scientist Training Programme.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will participate in both routine MR Physics support to clients and a number of clinical and service related research and development projects relating to MR imaging, particularly around implementation of MR Accelerator technology. The post will be an ideal opportunity for an individual with an academic MR background to gain experience in a clinical environment.

Essential

  • First or second-class honours degree in physics
  • UK Driving Licence

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Experience in magnetic resonance physics
  • Knowledge of the role of a clinical scientist (medical physicist) in magnetic resonance physics to post graduate level
  • Knowledge of the principles underpinning equipment QA
  • Good knowledge of IT software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and knowledge of applying them
  • Knowledge of legislation, standards and safety principles relating to the relevant area
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology relevant to the area of work.
  • Basic knowledge of clinical hazards and infection control

Desirable

  • Basic knowledge of clinical hazards and infection control
  • Experience of research and development working as part of a team
  • Experience delivering presentations
  • Higher degree in Medical Physics or related subject
  • Membership of IPEM
