Job summary

We have vacancies in varies specialities within our Hepatobiliary (HPB) and abdominal transplant theatres, Central Operating Department.

Would you like an Apprenticeship with a guaranteed Band 3 job at the end?

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Programme within an 18-24 month timescale. You will be paid at Band 2 until successful completion when you will automatically transfer into a Band 3 post.

This opportunity will provide you with valuable experience and offer a strong foundation for a career within the NHS. No theatre experience is necessary, as full training will be provided, however knowledge of working in theatres or a health care setting would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

We would invite applications from suitably qualified, experienced Healthcare Assistants who hold the appropriate NVQ Level 3 to be appointed at Band 3.

The Department has 20 Theatres covering ENT, Orthopaedics, Urology, General/Vascular surgery, Hepatobiliary and Transplantation. We also support the use of 3 Da Vinci Robots for surgery across the department. Although this is a large department, staff are fully supported by senior staff, a Clinical Educator and a Matron. This post is perfect for someone looking to further their career in a top rated organisation.

Successful applicants will work under the direction of a registered practitioner to perform a range of delegated clinical duties and assist in the safe care of patients within the peri-operative environment.

You will assist with the preparation and setting up of the theatres in readiness for the operating list and actively participate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support patients undergoing elective and emergency surgery. You will undertake and assist in the administrative, clinical, cleanliness and housekeeping duties of the theatres as required.

You will need to have a willingness to learn with excellent communication skills, IT skills will be advantageous. The department works 24/7 with various shift patterns in place, however this role requires a commitment to on call working including weekends and bank holidays.

Job Purpose

  • Throughout the apprenticeship the post holder will gain experience working in the Team within the Trust
  • The successful candidate will develop the required skills to assist the Registered Practitioners and Assistant Practitioners in the day to day delivery of patient care in the Peri-operative setting, to ensure a consistently high quality service to the Trust
  • The successful candidate will complete the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship within 18 to 24 months. (Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship Band 3 is granted)

  • Maintain patients privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
