Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and forward thinking individual to develop a central waiting list team and undertake the role of Admissions/Waiting List Manager within The Family Health Board at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust. This role will be based in The Great North Childrens Hospital (GNCH).

The post holder will have a pivotal role in establishing the centralized waiting list team, which will be responsible for ensuring maximum efficiency of allocated elective paediatric theatre lists, managing waiting times alongside clinical priority and effective coordination of elective admissions across the GNCH.

The sensitivity around clinical and management priorities will require the post holder to work with and have the confidence of Consultants and Clinical Board Managers. Information management and data quality is essential to ensuring effective management of waiting lists.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will develop a centralized waiting list service which will work closely with the existing secretarial teams and will be responsible for the efficient use of beds ensuring that all elective / urgent admissions are admitted in a timely fashion and that no elective patient breaches the guaranteed maximum waiting time. The post holder will need to work closely with other waiting list teams / clinical boards to ensure effective elective planning across GNCH.

The post holder is also responsible for implementing and managing all Government targets relating to paediatric patients in GNCH. These include reduction in cancelled operations, management of delayed discharges, booking systems and contribution to the patient choice agenda. Consequently the post holder plays a key role in the achievement of all waiting list targets within the Directorate.

In time the post holder will ensure appropriate delegation of work between team members and offer training and line management support in alignment with HR policies and procedures.
