You must be a fully registered medical practitioner with the GMC. You will have a minimum of four years' postgraduate training, at least two years of which is in a relevant specialty.

This is an innovative post that would allow to develop subspecialty interest in ENT. The post will appeal to those who want to pursue the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)

Clinical:
- They will be responsible for managing their patients, overseen by a supervising consultant(s).
- They will participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance, making a contribution to multidisciplinary audit and risk management activities
- There is no regular on call commitment but there will be opportunities to do locum on call shifts to provide cover for sickness and to support colleagues working less than full time.
Administrative:
- Undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients and in relation to the running of the Department of ENT in co-operation with the Specialty Manager and Head of Department.
- To undertake general administrative duties within a context of compliance with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives.
- They will assist the ENT Directorate Manager and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints working to provide reports within the timeframe set out by Trust policy.
- Contribute to the general organisation and running of ENT services within the Trust, working in collaboration with colleagues.
Research:
- The Trust welcomes and encourages research as a high profile activity that compliments the service provided. The emphasis being on studies that fall within the National Institute of Health Research Portfolio.
- The appointee will have the opportunity to develop his/her own research interest and will be expected to contribute to his/her chosen field. There are ample opportunities for collaboration within the Department, Trust and University. Strong research links exist with numerous clinical and University departments.
Teaching:
- There is the opportunity for involvement in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff within the ENT department.
- The incumbent will be expected to contribute to the teaching of nurse practitioners, nursing and ancillary staff.
- Participate in the teaching and training of any other health care professionals within the Directorate.
Flexibility:
In line with the Trusts core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend.
