Job summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.

We are seeking a motivated innovative individual trained in the provision of the cross section of microsurgical reconstruction in our tertiary and quarternary areas of service. We provide more specialised services than any other trust and we encourage the successful candidate to develop an area of interest in their chosen field. Interest in research development will be supported if the candidate desires. We anticipate the individual will have skills in working in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex surgery, with a commitment to service development and improving the patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

  • Integrate into multi-disciplinary teams across the trust to provide world class reconstructive services.
  • Develop areas of microsurgical practice and contribute to expanding areas of practice such as head and neck reconstruction, limb trauma and breast reconstruction.
  • Be an integral member of the team providing SLNB services in melanoma.
  • Be willing to do peripheral clinics.

Administrative:

  • Maintain a clinical activity log.

Research:

  • Build relationships with regional centres of education.
  • The department will support

Teaching:

  • Actively engage in regional teaching programmes.
  • Mentor trainees and undergraduates interested in careers in plastic surgery

Essential

  • Primary Medical Qualification.
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
  • Microsurgical fellowship in reconstruction
  • Logbook evidence of SLNB capability

Desirable

  • Higher Degree.
  • Consultant experience

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of experience in the specialty.
  • Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty.
  • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality.
  • Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.
