Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join the Primary Care research team based in the North East region of the Clinical Research Network. The post holder can be based in the north of the region at Regent Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne or in James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The team works closely with GP practices and other community services to deliver high quality clinical and research care. This post provides an opportunity to develop data management and research skills.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for;

  • Liaising with research staff and independently retrieve required data.
  • Ensuring that all data reporting requirements both internally and externally are met, including responding to routine deadlines and to ad hoc information requests.
  • Working closely with Business Intelligence and Partner Organisations to enhance data collection processes and tools to support ongoing development of the service and maintenance of local database and registries.
  • Ensuring that all reports produced are accurate, timely and presented in a user friendly manner.
  • Working closely with the Trust IT department on these issues when needed.
  • Routinely auditing data quality on the manual and electronic systems within the department to ensure high standards that comply with Trust and external governing bodies' requirements.
  • Monitoring performance against the data quality targets taking remedial action where necessary.
  • Taking responsibility for data security and integrity.
  • Establishing backup systems for data within the department that will comply with Trust systems.
  • Ensuring that the databases and the data collection systems comply with confidentiality, Caldicott and data protection, and all other relevant (Trust and non-Trust) policies and procedures.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in data collection for this service. To assist in the development of other database /information systems.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will join a team of primary care research staff in supporting the accurate collation and management of research data from study teams, GP Practices and other community settings, across the North East and North Cumbria. The primary care research team is an integral part of the Clinical Research Network [CRN] NENC Core team and the post holder will work alongside the CRN Study Support Service and General Practice research staff, in supporting practices involvement in high quality research relevant to their local populations. All research undertaken across the regions community settings safeguards the wellbeing of patients and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.

Candidates will be an experienced in data management with an NVQ level 4 or NVQ level 3 with NIHR Portfolio research experience and demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and IT skills with an ability to win early credibility with research delivery partners in primary care and community settings. The successful applicant will also be required to collate, analyse and present accurate data and illustrate effective time management skills, prioritise work and can deliver results consistently to tight timelines, under supervision of the Research Operations Manager for primary care.
