Job summary

We are looking for a highly experienced Crown and Bridge Dental Technician to join our small team of 6 Technicians providing a full range of fixed appliances. This senior post will be instrumental in the production of complex crowns and bridges to the Restorative Department of this large Teaching Hospital, supporting the Laboratory Manager in providing excellent Technical services to the Department and Directorate.

Experience of complex Crown and Bridge work, Implants, CAD/Cam design and manufacture are essential and will be a routine part of this Senior Technical role, alongside the need to contribute to the management, leadership and smooth running of Laboratory services.

This senior role will provide an opportunity to fully explore the application, adoption and integration of Digital capabilities within the Dental Hospital to enhance patient results and experience as well as being able to demonstrate a commitment to future Digital trends for both NHS treatment and Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.

Main duties of the job

There will be an expectation to supervise other staff, to be involved in the teaching and mentoring of other Technical staff within the Dept.

An ability to undertake the construction of complex crown and bridge work on a daily basis, with the understanding and experience of differing Implant systems and their uses. Familiarity and experience of Digital computer aided design and manufacture is a requisite for this post, one which will increase with the planned introduction of further Digital capabilities within the Dental Hospital in the future. An awareness of how these capabilities can be adopted and integrated for use will be a major part of this Senior role.

The Restorative Laboratories comprise three disciplines, MaxilloFacial, Crown and Bridge and Prosthodontics- all with the need to work closely alongside each other to better provide a Team based approach for achieving the best outcomes for patients. This will require an awareness of the need for incorporating removable prostheses with fixed appliances, understanding the different requirements of each. Close collaboration, cooperation and communication between the technical teams involved is of paramount importance.

Supporting the Laboratory Manager in providing this complex Technical Service to the Dental Directorate will involve the input and involvement of the successful candidate on a daily basis, with the requirement to deputise in his or her absence as well as to demonstrate leadership and commitment to the service provided by the Restorative Laboratories as a whole.

  • Post holder will be expected to produce complex and highly specialised work on a daily basis including Implants, attachments, milled crowns and bridges of the highest standards for patients, working with Consultant Staff, Clinicians, Specialist Registrars (SpRs) and MSc students in the design and provision of highly complex, bespoke and specialised work, ensuring the technical work meets the required standards in an effective and efficient manner.
  • To take part in innovative development work, to be involved in research and clinical trials in providing technical work.
  • To work autonomously and to deputise for the Laboratory Manager in their absence.
  • The post holder will be expected to contribute to the planning, development and provision of Dental technical services to the Dental Hospital.
  • Post holder will be expected to undertake training and development as part of Continual Professional Development.
