Job summary

The purpose of this role is to assist the Trust in the discharge of its duties under the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012. The main duty holder responsibilities outlined within the Trust Asbestos Management Plan are predominantly delivered by key role holders within the Estates Directorate. The Trust recognises that asbestos is present in areas of the properties under its control. The Trusts expectation is that staff and non-licensed contractors will not be exposed to, or work with, asbestos within its premises, all work with ACMs is conducted by licensed asbestos removal contractors and the successful applicant will be expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring Trust Asbestos management procedures are adequate, compliant, communicated and adhered to by staff, visitors and contractors.

Main duties of the job

The main duties associated with this role include acting as Deputy Responsible Person for Asbestos (Trust Wide) in the absence of the Estates Health & Safety Manager; implementing adequate Asbestos Management and Control in-line with requirements outlined within the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR2012). The role includes maintaining the Trust asbestos register and associated compliance records. Duties will also include managing the delivery of the Trust re-inspection program and coordinating any remedial work that results from that program including undertaking project management of asbestos removal/remediation on major work schemes. They will be expected to instruct asbestos consultants where specialist asbestos surveys are required for operational activities including minor works or larger capital schemes. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver face to face training to all relevant Estates staff on asbestos management with specific reference to Trust protocols.

Undertake project management in regard to asbestos management and removal on major work schemes and asbestos adherence advice and surveys on larger capital schemes.
  • Provide and arrange training in specialist area as appropriate to the Trust workforce.

The provision of specialist advice to the organisation with regard to the management of Asbestos risks within Trust premises. To ensure that all Asbestos statutory obligations are met and adhered to by Trust staff, visitors and appointed contractors. Ensure that the end to end audit cycle is complete and all risks are mitigated by following up on remedial work, action plans and ensuring they are recorded in the Trust register and monitoring systems.
