Job summary

Due to the success of a new strategic direction, leading to an increase in income and impact, Newcastle Hospitals Charity has a fantastic opportunity for the right person to succeed in the new role of Head of Fundraising and Deputy Charity Director. This new role will join the management team of the Charity and will lead a small, collaborative and energetic team who raise funds from a variety of sources including trust and foundations, corporate partnerships, major donors, events and community fundraisers and individual giving.

One of the largest NHS charities in the UK, Newcastle Hospitals Charity (NHC) works in partnership with Newcastle Hospitals to fundraise for and to support a range of projects that go beyond public funding and enable the Trust to deliver its ambition and deliver goals that the NHS can't do alone. Projects supported by NHC include the purchase of specialist clinical equipment; capital infrastructure and initiatives that support the health and wellbeing of patients and staff. Main duties of the job

The Head of Fundraising and Deputy Charity Director will drive our fundraising strategy, supporting, nurturing and growing our fantastic network of funders and partners. You will be responsible for all fundraising operations, reporting directly into the Charity Director.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about healthcare and building long-term mutually valuable partnerships. You will lead the creation and implementation of our annual fundraising & partnerships strategy, as well as contribute to the overall strategic direction of the charity . You'll be responsible for forming productive and positive relationships with organisations that include start-ups, large corporations, foundations and charities, growing productive and positive relationships with them, evolving new products to align with sector changes and showcasing our growth and impact on the ground. This role is ideal for someone who is excited to both develop and drive forward our strategy while also being hands-on in working with our partners and on projects.

  • The post holder will be working with Clinical and Operational leaders across the NHS, Voluntary Sector, Private Sector to understand and capitalise on potential fundraising and partnership opportunities aligned to the strategic objectives of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Key to this role will be the development and delivery of a fundraising strategy and plan for Newcastle Hospitals Charity (NHC) to achieve agreed income projections of c£10million per annum across a range of revenue streams including corporate partnerships; grant-making trusts; individual giving; community fundraising; events; legacies and digital appeals/campaigns.
  • The post holder will build strategic relationships across the clinical, executive, and operational leadership teams across NHS & non-NHS organisations.
  • The role will require daily communications with Executive Operational / Strategy leaders within the organisation as well as those in key partner organisations.
  • The post-holder will be responsible translating national, regional and local policy/regulations into annual and multi-year plans.
  • The post holder will be jointly responsible for managing the Charity budget and ensuring that income and expenditure delivers on an agreed return on investment (RoI).
  • Lead, inspire, line-manage and support the fundraising team to meet fundraising projections and goals, and to achieve their potential, ensuring that all aspects of performance, attendance, conduct, training and appraisal are addressed in accordance with Trust Policy.
  • Grow, nurture and develop fundraising volunteers.
  • Represent Newcastle Hospitals Charity at key meetings internally and externally and in national, regional and local contexts.
  • Deputise for the Charity Director as required.
