Are you a motivated and talented nurse with experience in Paediatric Respiratory, Medicine and Long Term Ventilation or High Dependency Care? Do you want to work in a challenging environment?
We are looking to recruit Band 5 Staff Nurses to work on Ward 2a, Respiratory & Long Term Ventilation Ward at The Great North Children's Hospital. Ward 2a is a 21 bedded general medical inpatient unit which provides specialist care for children and young people who have tracheostomies and require long-term ventilation. We also care for children and young people with conditions in the following specialities;
The busy children's ward has an identified Long Term Ventilation Bay and Medical High Dependency Area. We require someone who is adaptable to work in all areas of the ward and who is a real team player.
The successful candidates will have experience in caring for this complex and diverse patient group and knowledge of the specific needs of these specialised services.
Exciting opportunity has come available for paediatric nurses to join the HDU team. An established team who delivers HDU level care to the highest standard to a wide range of children from multi-speciality teams.

Main duties of the job
As a nurse in any of the wards and departments you will assess, plan and support delivery of care to ensure this is delivered to a high standard. You will work alongside a wide variety of professionals to deliver the very best family centred care.
You will receive training and ongoing support for enhanced skills from the Education Team relevant to the ward or department where you are employed. Enhanced skills may include, IV drug administration, care of gastrostomies and tracheostomies, delivery of breathing support systems like AIRVO and Non-invasive ventilation.
All new starters will have a supernumerary period and work alongside an experienced nurse. Wards and departments have individual competency frameworks to work towards.

- Accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating high quality patient care in the Peri-Operative environment.
- Provide effective support to both patient and carers throughout their care pathway.
- Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students, participating in mentor and preceptorship programmes
- To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
- Provide support for and depending on experience deputise for nurse in charge in their absence.
- Act as patient advocate in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code / Health and Care Professions Council standards of conduct, performance and ethics.
- Work collaboratively as an effective member of MDT.
- Participate in 24 hour on call service when appropriate to role.
