The posts are to help further develop the medical retina, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology; and glaucoma services. Which is the main focus of the posts can depend on the interests of the applicants. There are also opportunities to provide complimentary areas of interest such as retinal genetics, cataract surgery, motility surgery. An interest in being involved in and leading clinical trials would be encouraged. Some emergency, general ophthalmology maybe required depending on agreed job plan. There is a 1:16 on call commitment.
This post will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, but may involve clinics and operating at outreach sites. All routine cataract surgery takes place at the Newcastle Westgate Cataract Centre which is a mile from the RVI.
Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners on the GMC register. Being eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee would be an advantage.
