Job summary

At the Newcastle Fertility Centre we provide high quality care for a range of fertility issues. As a world leading fertility clinic we are dedicated to research innovation and supporting our patients. Our specialist team provides a comprehensive service for the investigation and treatment of people with fertility problems including:

IVF

Ovulation induction

Surgical sperm retrieval

Fertility preservation

Mitochondrial donation

The successful candidate will provide specialist information and consultation to other professionals on the social and psychological effects of fertility, involuntary childlessness, related medical conditions and assisted conception procedures, along with options for their management and support. They will promote and maintain good working relationships with other professionals, groups, organisations and agencies in order to further patients' / clients' support and counselling needs and refer on as necessary for other specialist help.

The fertility counsellor will support NFC management; develop and maintain effective communication within the team and the organisation and liaise with the multi-disciplinary team regarding theprovision of counselling services including educating all team members about good practice in counselling.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will provide counselling for adults being treated or followed up within the relevant medical specialism who have been referred by healthcare professionals within that specialism. They will act as a mental health resource to patients, carers and health and social care providers.
  • Will provide training, education and support to team members.
  • Will operate as autonomous practitioner within a psychology team to devise, deliver and evaluate individual plans of care following assessment.

Essential

  • Diploma level qualification in counselling on a BACP accredited course
  • Eligible for membership of the BACP and/or BICA
