Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic advanced nurse practitioner to set up a new hysteroscopy service at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust. You will be expected to work within defined protocols to apply advanced practitioner skills and undertake hysteroscopy and colposcopy procedures within a clinical setting with the ability to analyse symptoms, interpret and report findings to the clinical team. The post holder must be passionate about Women's Health and will undertake a wide range of advanced clinical interventions including cervical cytology, HPV testing, vaginal biopsies, organising investigations, outpatient consultation, Independent Nurse Prescribing and interpretation of test results. It is essential that you are a good communicator, have hysteroscopy experience and have the ability to challenge practice to ensure delivery of a safe and efficient service. The successful candidate will be able to evidence a consistent approach to professional leadership under pressure, reflecting behaviours which promote the values of the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • To develop and lead a new nurse led hysteroscopy service, ensuring the maintenance of clinical excellence, underpinned by evidence-based practice To contribute to the professional development of 'nursing' within the organisation and nationally.
  • To provide expert practice, advice and clinical leadership for patients, carers and colleagues, within hysteroscopy both locally and nationally.
  • To lead and develop a new nurse led hysteroscopy service, ensuring the maintenance of clinical excellence, underpinned by evidence-based practice.
  • To promote and undertake where appropriate audit and research to evaluate inter-professional systems, which aim to maintain quality in line with local and national guidelines.
  • To develop robust governance systems by contributing to the development and implementation of evidence-based protocols, documentation processes, standards, policies and clinical guidelines through interpreting and synthesising information from a variety of sources and promoting their use in practice.
  • To influence, deliver and shape the development of multi-professional education and training locally and nationally.
  • To influence the development of nursing locally and nationally.
  • Acting as a clinical expert within the field of hysteroscopy/colposcopy.
  • A highly visible clinical role.

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner will be a highly experienced clinical expert within Gynaecology and will be the strategic lead for the hysteroscopy and colposcopy service utilising specialist skills to assess, diagnose, treat patients and manage the clinical environment in liaison with the consultants and management team. The Advance Clinical Practitioner will reflect the standards set out by BSGE, BSCCP, RCOG and NICE guidance and demonstrate all four pillars of advanced level practice. The post holder will:

  • Develop and influence the nurse led hysteroscopy/colposcopy service for menstrual dysfunction and one stop clinics including undertaking outpatient hysteroscopy/colposcopy operative procedures such as polyp resection, loop biopsies, vaginal biopsies and minor surgical procedures.
  • Lead in the strategic direction of the ambulatory surgery within the Gynaecology Hysteroscopy/colposcopy service.
  • Act as an autonomous practitioner in forming multiple clinical decisions and complex patient management plans.
  • Act as a highly specialised role model who takes accountability for the hysteroscopy/colposcopy service development and implementation.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based guidelines and protocols through evaluation, research and audit to ensure high quality standards are maintained.
  • Development and provision of education and training of medical and nursing staff within the hysteroscopy/colposcopy service to enhance clinical practice and improve patient care.
  • Support and deputise for the Cervical Screening Provider Lead within colposcopy.
