Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fully trained SCP to join theCardiothoracic Team at Freeman Hospital Part of Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust

Cardiothoracic Theatres comprises of 5 Theatres AND 6 Catherisation Labs We are a busy unit carrying out a full range of Cardiac and Thoracic procedures for adults and children. Including Transplantation We offer a friendly working environment with the opportunity to develop both clinical and professional skills necessary to provide a high quality service.

The Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) role is well established within healthcare organisations and has been shown to enhance patient care, maintain surgical services and support surgical training.

Main duties of the job

The role encompasses the provision of care and appropriate intervention within the pre, peri and post-operative environment and the post holder will also be required to provide skilled surgical first assistance, in cardiac and thoracic surgery.

The SCP will be an integral part of the team supporting the directorate in the delivery of key performance targets particularly the quality and experience agenda and will support the teams to create an environment of continuous quality improvement and professional development ensuring that the delivery of patient care is regularly reviewed and that service developments or change are implemented when necessary. Self-motivation is essential along with a passion, drive, adaptability and resilience to cope with change within the Trust and wider NHS. Excellent communication skills are key to be able to influence and negotiate and quality and safety will be your priority.

You will be expected to demonstrate skills in communication, co-ordination of care and an ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team. Providing excellent patient experience is critical for all our patients and you will play a key role in ensuring that experience is optimized through accessible and effective communication with compassion and empathy
