In line with Newcastle Hospital's vision 'achieving local excellence and global reach through compassionate and innovative healthcare, education and research', the Commercial Enterprise Team were established in June 2020 and in just two years have a developed a highly professional reputation both internally and externally and an extremely healthy pipeline of commercial activities capable of generating positive returns to the Trust which can be invested directly into patient care. The timing is perfect for a new leader to support the team on the next stage in their journey, helping them to go from strength to strength and truly embed Commercial Enterprise as a key part of the Trust's growth strategy.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Deputy Director for Business, Development and Enterprise (B, D and E), the post leader will join the Senior Management Team within in the B, D and E Directorate and will be responsible for the day to day running of a Commercial Enterprise Unit. They will manage the team, develop capacity, capability and organizational expertise which can be channeled into commercial opportunities on behalf of the Trust with the view to maximising the generation of non NHS income. They will continue to develop the commercial strategy which is in line with Newcastle's strengths and our recently released 5 year strategy.

The ideal candidate will bring experience from a variety of commercial activities: translating financial modelling and market analysis into tangible product and profit. The successful candidate will bring hands on experience of successful commercialisation and product launch to customers in a healthcare setting.

  • The role of the Associate Director Commercial Enterprise is to lead the Commercial Enterprise Team at Newcastle Hospitals. This includes developing the capacity, capability and organisational expertise to maximise investment in commercial opportunities on behalf of the Trust, including flexible procurement and deployment of rapid response funds under Trust control.
  • To continue with development and implementation of the commercial strategy aligned to the organisational goals and ambitions, growing and maximising the Trusts activities with commercial partners, and releasing funds to the organisation for reinvestment into patient care.To lead and be responsible for the identification, management and delivery of international and domestic activity, and complex projects in order to generate an income stream for the Trust.
  • To inspire, motivate and negotiate with senior and executive colleagues across the Trust to identify areas of competitive advantage, at a regional, national and international level. Develop strategies to exploit those opportunities and deliver new income.
  • Drive and promote the NuTH Brand and reputation both internally and externally, developing and managing initiatives to win and grow commercial activity and income for the Trust
