Job summary

A exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Midwife within Maternity Services at The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals to become a Deputy Matron.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Senior Midwife with relevant intrapartum and operational experience who will form part of the Senior Midwifery Team and work closely with the Midwifery Matrons. You will support and deputise for the Intrapartum Matron in the professional and clinical leadership of the Delivery Suite and the Newcastle Birthing Centre, as well as supporting the management of the rotational midwives working within the service.

Main duties of the job

You will support the Matron in ensuring that services meet the agreed targets within the resources available, ensuring high standards of excellent, compassionate and quality care is delivered to women and their families. You will maintain a visible professional presence where staff and patients can turn for senior assistance, advice and support.

A good understanding of how good governance influences outcomes for mothers and babies is essential. Alongside the Matron you will be involved in the monitoring and compliance of standards that underpin the delivery of safe effective intrapartum care and feed into local, regional and national initiatives.

This role is ideal for someone wishing to strengthen their personal and professional knowledge, skills and attributes, and is looking for a new leadership challenge.

  • To support the Matron in maintain the delivery and quality of services provided within the care environment.   • Promote a positive learning environment where lessons are learnt and changes implemented to ensure a quality service working in partnership with the Directorate Manager, Matron and Clinical Director, Heads of Department both clinical and non-clinical
  • To work closely with colleagues to raise the profile of governance and risk management, highlighting in practice the relationship between patient safety and the management and everyday clinical practice and the effects on the patient to identify areas of good practice and highlight areas that can be improved
