We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join a well-integrated team. This Consultant Urological Surgeon post is based at the Freeman Hospital but could work at any of our three centres - Newcastle, Gateshead, and Northumbria. The post is available immediately.
The department would benefit from the appointment of a urologist with a sub-specialist interest in uro-oncology but we would welcome applications from high calibre individuals whatever their subspecialist interest.
In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research, and audit.
Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

Main duties of the job
This is a post involving responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients cared for within the Department of Urology in Newcastle and Northumbria hospitals.
The post holder may be involved in the on-call rota or the delivery of Saturday service commitments within his / her job plan.
The department has access to a dedicated Da Vinci Si robot along with sessional use of the hospitals second Da Vinci Si.
The appointee will join a group of 23 Consultant Urologists based at the Freeman Hospital providing services to Tyneside, Gateshead and Northumberland on a Hub and Spoke model.

- To participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance, making a significant contribution to multidisciplinary clinical audit and risk management.
- To provide a major contribution to the work necessary for NHSLA assessments.To assist the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints, working to provide reports within the timeframe set out by Trust policy.
Administrative:
- To contribute to the general organisation and running of the Urology service within the Trust, working in collaboration with colleagues.
- To undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients and in relation to the running of the Department of Urology, in co-operation with the Head of Department, Directorate Manager and Clinical Director. The appointee is entitled to become a member of the Medical Staff Committee of the hospital.
- To undertake general administrative duties within a context of compliance with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives.
- To become involved with the financial management of the Directorate budget, at all times looking to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to agreed standards, but at the same time reviewing working practices to provide the most efficient use of resources.
Research:
- To participate in the Directorates clinical research programme. The Trust welcomes and encourages research as a high-profile activity that compliments the service provided. The emphasis being on studies that fall within the National Institute of Health Research Portfolio.
Teaching:
- To participate in the teaching and training of undergraduate students from Newcastle University. To participate in the clinical supervision of all postgraduate trainees in the Department of Urology with particular responsibility for specific urological trainees under his/her supervision.
- To participate in the teaching and training of any other healthcare professionals within the Department of Urology.
