Integrate into plastic and general breast surgical teams to deliver care for our population of patients with breast pathology.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The post holder will be mentored and learn advanced oncological and reconstructive techniques in a fully integrated oncoplastic team. There will be scope to develop areas of specific interest and to deliver research.
Main duties of the job
Clinical:
- Integrate into multi-disciplinary teams across the trust to provide world class oncological and reconstructive services.
- Develop logbook for operative experience, reflective leanring on how to run and execute multidisciplinary breast surgery.
Administrative:
- Maintain a clinical activity log.
Research:
- Build relationships with regional centres of education.
- The department will support
Teaching:
- Actively engage in regional teaching programmes.
- Mentor trainees and undergraduates interested in careers in oncoplastic surgery.

We are delighted to offer a 12-month pre or post CCT fellowship to trainees with a background in either Oncoplastic Breast (General Surgery) or Plastic Surgery, commencing August 2022. The Newcastle Breast Centre is a high-volume breast cancer and reconstruction unit. The 2018 GIRFT Report (Breast Surgery) noted it is the 12th highest volume centre in the UK (132 units) and cited it as a flagship and exemplar service for the trust. It has been a TIG centre for the oncoplastic breast fellowship since its inception and has received excellent trainee feedback for operative exposure, breadth of clinical exposure and culture of collaborative working between the Breast and Plastic Units. Both Units are situated on the Royal Victoria Infirmary site, close to the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne and share the same clinic space and operating theatre complex. The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust is one of the largest and busiest trusts in the UK, with an Outstanding CQC rating in each of its two most recent inspections.
