We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join the Newcastle Hospitals Palliative Care Service. This is a trust wide service working as 4 teams across RVI, FRH, NCCC and Newcastle community. The service includes medical, nursing and psychology specialists. The successful candidate would primarily be based within one of the palliative care teams for clinical and strategic work; however, they would be expected to cover any of the hospital or community sites as needed.

This is a Locum Consultant post until 31st August 2023 and attracts 7.5 PAs for in hours NUTH work. We will also consider applicants who wish to work less than the 7.5 PAs.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will join a team of Palliative Medicine Consultants working within the NUTH Palliative Care Service. This is a Liaison Service, consisting of Doctors, Nurse Specialists, Health Care Assistants and Psychologists, which supports the delivery of high quality Palliative and End of Life care to patients within Newcastle Hospitals and those living in Newcastle community.

The post holder will work with a variety of Clinicians in caring for adult patients with palliative cancer and non-cancer diagnoses within many directorates within the Newcastle hospitals and in Newcastle community.

In addition to working alongside the other specialists within the Newcastle hospitals and General Practice, there are also many exciting opportunities to work into the specialist regional services within the hospitals e.g. Cardiothoracic, Hepatobiliary, Renal, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Cystic Fibrosis, Transplantation, Cancer and Haematological Malignancies, and to work with staff to support recognition of patients identified in the last year of life and offer opportunities for Advance Care Planning.

This locum post attracts 7.5 PAs for work within NUTH, and 0.5PA and 2% banding for 1:5 to 1:8 frequency second on call cover at Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle.

The post holder's entire contract will be held and managed by Newcastle Hospitals. The locum post commences from 12th September (or as soon after as possible) and runs until 31st August 2023.
