The laboratory has recently been selected as a pilot centre for screening for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) in newborn babies. Many of the disorders investigated by the Metabolic and Newborn Screening section can cause serious disability and so their timely diagnosis and treatment is extremely important.
