We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-established Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics team, part of the directorate of Internal Medicine, based primarily at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. We are a 5-consultant team with 3 Specialty Trainees and our usual complement of 3 Junior Doctors in training.

In addition to the broad opportunities of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit.

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about contributing to the CPT team across a number of the activities listed above and who has the motivation and rigour to support innovation and ensure quality in all areas of practice. Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners who are on (or eligible to join) the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the clinical, academic and educational duties of the Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics team, providing excellent care, research and training across a wide scope of practice.

  • Participation in the National Poisons information Service consultant on-call rota (where applicable
  • Provision of direct clinical support for National Poisons Information Service, [Newcastle Unit], in relation to poisons and chemical exposures (where applicable
  • Contribution to the development of monographs on drug and chemical exposure held on TOXBASE (where applicable
  • Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and other health care professionals
  • Contribution to the wider range of CPT roles including Medicines Management, clinical researc
  • Support delivery of the specialist hypertension clini
  • The Trust welcomes and encourages research as a high profile activity that compliments the service provided. The emphasis is on studies that fall within the National Institute of Health Research Portfolio. The post holder will be encouraged to contribute to existing clinical research projects
  • Undertake Continued Medical Education/Professional Development (CME/CPD) in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Royal College of Physicians
  • Undertake an annual appraisal and job plan review. It is expected that objectives within job plan reviews will be based on Trust objectives such as fulfilment of fixed contractual commitments on the basis of a 43 week working year with due allowance for statutory holidays.

  • Full GMC Registration.
