Job summary

Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners, who have a special interest in Elderly Care to work in a 12-month fixed term post at an Independent Medical Practitioner (GP) with expanded Scope level. Main duties of the job

Providing specialist geriatric medical input into the care of older people in the community hospital setting. The post would appeal to anyone who has an established interest in community elderly care . You will need to ensure that people who use services, carers and advocates are treated with respect and dignity. The appointment is for 2 days at Trust Consultant level based within the Community Hospitals in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The post is a key part of the older persons in-patient service. You will provide specialist geriatric medical input into the care of older people in the community hospital setting working with advanced nurse practitioners and existing multidisciplinary teams. This post has arisen from our interest in developing a geriatric service which recognises the complexity of managing older people at the interface of acute, emergency and links with with community services.

You will provide clinical leadership to the MDT, have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients and proper functioning of the wards. Liaise with General Practitioners, hospital and community specialists and other relevant agencies.

You will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the service that includes prioritisation of case load according to need.
