Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated candidate to apply for this Band 7 Occupational Therapist post, or a Band 6 developmental post with the opportunity to become a Band 7 within a supported structure. Responsibilities would be adjusted accordingly.The move to a Band 7 post would be upon completion of required competencies as agreed and reviewed with managers.
You will be joining the CAMHS Paediatric Psychology Service, to be part of a recently established Paediatric Liaison team for young people with joint physical and mental health presentations.
You will work alongside clinical psychology, psychiatry, nursing and family therapy colleagues to support young people and their families who have been admitted to general hospital with complicated psychological difficulties related to physical symptoms.
Examples include functional presentations and chronic pain, as well as managing young people attending in a mental health crisis in the context of complex illness and disability.The role will also involve some outpatient working for this patient group as required.
The Paediatric Psychology Team is a long established team in a larger CAMHS provision within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Main duties of the job
OTs with experience of working with children and who are interested in the relationship between physical and mental health are encouraged to apply. This is an excellent opportunity for both holistical and person-centred working.
The work involves establishing the OT role, OT provision and pathways with support from the CAMHS OT Leads. It will include: Offering assessment and intervention to children with complex presentations because of comorbidities.
- Working in conjunction with paediatric teams and other community and mental health professionals to deliver a joined-up care pathway to meet the specific needs of the child and their family.
- Providing consultation and advice to clinicians and acute wards in respect of complex and challenging presentations.
- Developing training programmes for staff at the Leicester Royal Infirmary to enhance understanding and integration of physical and mental health care in the acute hospital.
- Participation in professional and safeguarding meetings as required
- Contributing to audits and quality improvement activities and actively participating in service development.
