Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join the LPTs Huntington Disease Inpatient Team.
The post is a full-time permanent position at 37.5 hours per week between 8.00 to 5.00 Monday to Friday. We would welcome applications from internal applicants with experience of working within an MDT with Occupational Therapists or those who can demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation to work with our client group showing transferrable skills from other services.
The HD Team is a multidisciplinary specialist care service providing assessments and treatment packages for a range of service users from 16 years + at all stages of Huntington's disease from pre-symptomatic to end of life.
We believe that each person is a unique individual, whose mental health, physical health and psychological well-being cannot be treated in isolation, that each of these areas needs to be addressed, in terms of assessment, treatment, monitoring and regular review by multi-disciplinary staff who are trained, experienced and committed to provide the highest standards of care.
The Occupational Therapy Assistant with form an important part of the overall Multi Discipline team under the supervision of a Band 6 Occupational Therapist.
Main duties of the job
Please note this role does include physical support to patients with their activities of daily living and personal care, experience of using manual handling equipment and demonstrating competence is essential.
The Role:
You will assist the Occupational Therapist (OT) to deliver both mental health and physical care interventions which have been identified by the OT and wider MDT to help patients meet their individual goals, using evidence-based interventions / treatments.
You will support the OT in delivering individual treatment plans which enable service users to maintain their functional and cognitive skills and abilities using graded or adaptive strategies at all stages of their condition to retain independence whenever possible.
You will be required to carry out manual handling tasks, using appropriate equipment issued when necessary, to support the service users in their daily activities including physical support with washing, dressing and feeding to rehabilitation and development of skills.
You will be working within the multidisciplinary team to contribute to managing risk and risk assessments.
