Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust for a Senior Legal Services Officer who can play a key role in the delivery of a comprehensive legal service.

The legal services team is a small, niche and professional team which is responsible for the portfolio of clinical negligence and public/employers liability claims, Inquests, court of protection and the provision of healthcare advice.

This role is integral to the legal department and amongst other duties, the successful candidate will have the day to day management of staff, have oversight of claims and assist with inquest and court of protection work. A good knowledge of the processes and procedures associated with the management of clinical and non-clinical claims and coronial law is essential for this role.

The successful candidate should expect to work in a fast paced environment, operating to key deadlines with a passion for the law. In return you will receive training and support to further develop your technical and leadership skills and make a genuine contribution to improving the patient experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Investigate and manage potential and actual clinical negligence, employers/public liability and property expenses scheme claims against the Trust in line with statutory requirements and the NHS Litigation Authority rules. To analyse trends from claims received and provide management information (risk management feedback, themes and financial costing) to enable learning from claims to enhance patient and staff safety.
  • Actively manage the Trusts Coroners inquest caseload from initial statement/document gathering to attending court.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Corporate Affairs for legal services issues.
  • Line manage and provide continuous development of the Legal Services Assistant and Administrator.
