Community Immunisation Service - Band 3 Healthcare Support Workers
An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the Community Immunisation Service to deliver the School Aged Immunisation Programme. The team are due to deliver flu vaccinations in primary and secondary schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland from September to December this year.
You will be part of a team that ensures all children and young people are offered important immunisations protecting them against serious diseases. You will work alongside colleagues at base and in schools to vaccinate children and young people from Monday to Friday. There may be limited opportunities for some evening or weekend to support community clinics.
We are looking for Band 3 Healthcare Support Workers.
Whilst we've asked for an NVQ L3 qualification, we encourage you to apply even if you don't have it now!
Our service is based at County Hall, Glenfield and you will be required to travel to different schools and settings each day across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
For school-based roles a mileage allowance will be paid. Also due to the nature of work all successful applicants attending sessions will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) certificate which we will apply for on your behalf
Roles are being offered as:
Bank minimum commitment of 2 days (or 1 day if you are available on Fridays)
Main duties of the job
The service requires staff to travel to school and work shifts from 8:30 to 15:30 hours can be negotiated.
The role entails:
- Carry out assessment of children and young people at a vaccination session to ensure they are well enough to receive the vaccine and that their inclusion for immunisation/vaccination programmes meets the national/local criteria.
- To administer the nasal flu vaccination. All administrations will be under a Patient Specific Direction (PSD) Recorded on our electronic consent platform.
- To comply with the medicines management standards throughout the vaccination process including the robust awareness of immunisation history and contraindications to vaccination.
- To report if a child or young person is not well enough on the day for the planned vaccination and to discuss their health and management of care with the registered practitioner.
- Ensure the Cold Chain of medicines is managed in accordance with maintaining the cold chain of medicines policy and audit/records are maintained.
