Job summary

This post in the Dynamic Psychotherapy Service covers the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We are part of a Specialist Psychological Therapy Service that includes a Personality Disorder Pathway and a CBT service.

This service has strong ties with the NHS Departments of Psychotherapy in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham, particularly in respect of training NHS psychotherapists through the UKCP accredited South Trent (ST) Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training.

We are looking for a forward thinking psychotherapist, with excellent communication skills who can play an active role within the Specialist Psychological Therapies team as we move into service redesign and improvement. The service is based at Gwendolen House Leicester.

The post holder will carry full caseload seeing patients under supervision for individual, brief, group psychoanalytic psychotherapy and assessing new referrals. This means that applicants will need a qualifying level of training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy registered with the CPJA college of the UKCP and have experience of delivering psychoanalytic psychotherapy in the NHS.

Main duties of the job

To work autonomously as a Senior Adult Psychotherapist within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Services policies and procedures.

To deliver under supervision the systematic provision of a psychoanalytic psychotherapy service to patients, taking referrals from all sectors of care.

To supervise and support the treatment of patients by psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy provided by Visiting Therapists and trainees within the Service.

To support and work under supervision to offer specialist consultation, supervision and training to colleagues within Adult Mental Health services

To contribute to policy changes and service development in line with the principles of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Under supervision undertake research and utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.

To support teaching and training within the Service at introductory and intermediate levels and as competence develops take on greater responsibility for teaching.

Essential

  • To have undertaken a qualifying training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and be registered with the UKCP (cpja college) or BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council)
  • To have a recognised qualification in one of the core mental health professions e.g. psychiatric nursing, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, social work, medicine or is able to demonstrate equivalence to a core profession in NHS mental health services

Desirable

  • Qualification in other psychoanalytically informed models for example Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy, Transference Focused Psychotherapy, Mentalisation Based Treatment
  • Car driver or suitable alternative
  • Able to undertake flexible working hours

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable competence to work in the mental health field.
  • Training in and experience of working with a range of other therapeutic models.
  • Work within a variety of multi-disciplinary team settings, such as inpatient, day patient and outpatient.
  • Clinical work with patients drawn from a wide range of diagnostic groups.
  • Clinical supervision of mental health clinicians
  • Training in specialist dynamic or Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, inclusive of theoretical education, and a wide range of clinical work, with supporting in-depth supervision by a trained UKCP CPJA college or BPC registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist.
  • An experience of personal therapy research, audit and clinical governance.
