We are delighted to offer an enthusiastic, self-motivated and innovative experienced Occupational Therapist the opportunity to join the inpatient mental health rehabilitation and recovery team at The Willows, an exciting mix of two, 10 bedded sub-acute step down wards, 1 male, 1 female and an 8 bedded locked rehabilitation male ward.

As a Band 6 Specialist Mental Health Occupational Therapist (OT) you will work within a MDT and lead the OT team of a Band 5 OT and 3 OTAs providing ongoing OT Assessments and interventions to address needs in Functional, Psycho-social, Cognitive, Sensory and Physical Health.

Working together as a team ensures we deliver high quality therapeutic care to patients who have experienced deterioration in their mental health and require mental health rehabilitation. Using assessments such as MOHOST and AMPS, we provide a range of occupational focused therapeutic interventions to support the patient journey of recovery from admission through to discharge.

You will be skilled with patients to support their recovery journey, confident delegating tasks to other members of the team.

You will have strong engagement and motivational skills and be flexible in working with patients with complex mental health needs during their recovery pathway.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate and promote our Trust values and leadership behaviours in every aspect of what you do and this will be demonstrated through the leadership and daily support to your patients, your occupational therapy colleagues and wider MDT to ensure we STEP up to be GREAT together.

You must be good at building rapport, therapeutic relationships and working with others to support their recovery journey.

You will have strong engagement and motivational skills and be flexible in working with patients with complex mental health needs during their recovery pathway. The team support the patient journey of recovery from inpatient to community settings.

In collaboration with and with the support of the Band 7 OT you will be leading the OT team on a day-to-day basis within an established progressive and supportive team environment and have strong links with the Multidisciplinary team.

You will provide supervision to Band 5, Band 3 and offer them support to progress their skills, experience and careers. You will be expected to support OT students which will also enhance your own clinical skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential as you will be an integral part of the MDT informing recovery progress and providing comprehensive OT assessment and reports to inform accommodation needs, package of care needs and appropriate ongoing referrals to support and signposting to appropriate support in the community.
