Job summary

Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The teams are based in and near schools and colleges. Each designated MHST supports a population of up to 8,000 children and young people and will be responsible for a cluster of around 20 schools and colleges each, across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.

As a Locality Team Leader you will have the opportunity to apply for the Low Intensity Supervisor Training and be responsible for the caseload management & supervision of Clinicians/Supervisors and Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP). The post holders will also be responsible for working directly with schools and being the main point of contact for the MHST.

You will also have the opportunity for a small caseload and be actively involved in delivering universal and targeted group interventions in schools. These interventions will be CBT based, so you will need to have experience at delivering individual and group CBT interventions to children, young people, and parents.

Main duties of the job

The Locality Team Leader role will focus on providing both clinical and operational oversight for one of the teams across the service. This will include providing clinical supervision, clinical and quality assurance and line management of Education Mental Health Practitioners (Band 4/5) (EMHP) and Clinical Supervisors (Band 6).The role will be working alongside key external stakeholders and developing relationships between the MHST and educational settings. In addition, Locality Team Leaders will be involved in the delivery of our service offer, where appropriate, which will support in clinical and quality governance and ensuring the needs of CYP are met. The post holder will work as part of the service operational leadership team supporting the Family Service Manager to continue to mobilise the MHST offer across LLR.

You will support EMHPs in delivering high-quality CBT interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties in and around schools. You will be responsible for liaising directly with schools, developing and co-producing materials for delivery/presentation, supporting the development and embedding of your MHST in schools will be critical to the success of the team.

You will need to be a driver and have access to your own transport. Public transport will not be suitable in order to fulfil this role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree (or equivalent level qualification) and evidence of practical application of skills, knowledge and attitude on the subject of Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health for example in; Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, State Registered Occupational Therapist (SROT) or Art Therapist
  • Professional Registration with a recognised regulatory body in the UK
  • Post qualifying training in methods of working with children and young people with mental health problems, e.g. counselling, family therapy and CBT

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist with children, young people and their families under supervision
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in CAMHS
  • Experience of supervising team members
  • Experience of providing teaching and training to professional groups
  • Post-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities
  • Experience of working with schools
