Job summary

Are you either a newly qualified or established Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to looking use and develop your skills in a newly developed service?

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join the Specialist Autism Team working across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The Specialist Autism Team have been together for just over a year, working to improve the lives of autistic individuals without a learning disabilty aged 14+ by offering time-limited assessment and interventions. You will be a valued part of a unique and wide-ranging multidisciplinary team which includes input from dietetics, OT, psychology, nursing, systemic family therapy, psychiatry as well as speech and language therapy. We strive for constant service improvement and your contribution into those conversations would be encouraged.

Your main duties will be to provide communication assessment and interventions for autistic individuals, present workshops and complete wider duties within the team such as first assessments, reviews and contributions to our team meeting.

You will have the support of senior clinicians through regular supervision and opportunities to learn and develop through team training. We have solid links with the wider Speech and Language service so there are a multitude of learning and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with an interest in working with autistic people and those who care for them to improve their understanding of their autism.

With support, you will be working as part of an MDT to complete timely assessments and interventions using a wide range of tools. You will provide documents that support any reasonable adjustments a person needs to understand their autism.

You will liaise with carers and family to facilitate the process.

You will work with people in the own home, work place, school, college or clinic to gain information or provide strategies.

You will support and facilitate online and in person workshops to help individuals understand communication in relation to their autism.

With support you may be involved in case conferences, Care and Treatment reviews (CTR/CETR) or Multi-Agency Meetings for individuals.

You will provide advice for those working with autistic individuals on how best to support communication and make reasonable adjustments to ensure autistic people are included.

You will complete first assessments on behalf of the team and feed these back into team meetings for discussion.

You will support the team with producing documents and easy-read information.
