Eligibility:
- Current 1st level Registration on the Nursing or Midwifery Register
- Hold an Undergraduate Honours Degree to study at Level 7 (masters)
- Valid UK driving license and have access to a car. Where necessary, adjustments will be made in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.
Successful applicants will be employed under an LPT fixed term contract for the duration of the course from September 2023 until September 2024. Successful applicants will be remunerated as per Agenda for Change Band 6 training annex 21 pay scales during the programme of study. Please ensure you have reviewed Annex 21 pay terms.
Aninformation eveningwill be held at the University of NorthamptonThursday 30th March 2023 at 18.30-20.30hrs
Interviewswill be at the University of Northampton on:Thursday 11th May 2023consisting of some tasks that require candidates to achieve a set threshold. If successful in these, you will then have an interview on the same day. You must therefore be prepared to attend for a whole day.
Main duties of the job
As a student Health visitor or School Nurse you would be working with Healthy Together to deliver a 0-11 service in Leicestershire County and Rutland and a 0-19 service in Leicester city.
Clinical placements will be across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, supported by a Practice Assessor and Supervisor. You will experience both city and county placements. Academic study will be undertaken at the University of Northampton and there will be a balance of theory and practice learning opportunities. If you wish to be considered, you are required to apply to LPT for sponsorship, and secure a place by application to the University separately
LPT expects to recruit SCPHN students to permanent posts within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland on the successful completion of the course. Qualified Health Visitors and School Nurses are appointed to Band 6.

To successfully undertake SCPHN School Nurse/ Health Visitor training, incorporating theoretical and practical elements in order to develop the knowledge and skills required to exercise the highest levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The fundamental responsibilities of the post holder are to complete the required further education level 7 to provide and maintain a high standard of skilled public health nursing in accordance with the accredited faculty syllabus; enabling them to register with the NMC as a SCHPHN School Nurse / Health Visitor. This includes the following where the student will be supported
To assess the health and social needs of individuals, groups and communities in collaboration with practice supervisors and assessors dealing with situation where there is a need to assess events, problems or client condition in detail, to determine an appropriate course of action and evaluate outcomes.
Recognise indicators of child abuse and vulnerable adults and initiates safeguarding measures in accordance with recognised policies and procedures of the Trust and Leicestershire and Rutland safeguarding children partnership. You will develop competence and confidence in child and adult safeguarding procedures and always follow appropriate policies.
To search out and identify evolving health needs and situations hazardous to health at both individual and community level.
To demonstrate the ability to transfer previous professional knowledge and skills of Public Health Nursing; developing the ability to work effectively with sound judgement when dealing with complex emotional situations, family dynamics and difficult environments.
To understand and recognise own professional limitations; working with the agreed programme to achieve all objectives to the standard required.
To develop the ability to prioritise workload and demonstrate flexibility in response to urgent needs; organising day to day work as delegated by the supervisor without direct supervision once assessed to be competent to do so.
To participate and take a lead role in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme once assessed to be competent, working within the Healthy Together Standard Operating Guidance.
Act as a sign post for children, young people and families to other relevant services empowering them to access those services; developing competencies, skills and confidence in delivering evidence based care to families in a variety of settings and locations.
