Job summary

Following recent investment and internal recruitment, we have vacancy for 2 full time Band 6 Speech and Language Therapists to join our friendly, supportive and dynamic Acute team on a permanent basis. Our Acute Service covers three hospital sites: Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), Glenfield (GH) and Leicester General (LGH) Hospitals.

We are offering acute hospital sessions, and sessions based in Acute Stroke (LRI) and Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation (LGH).

We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced and innovative team players who can be flexible in meeting the demands of being an acute therapist and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. Preferred candidates will have proven time management and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. You must be competent in dysphagia management and have evidence of completion of dysphagia competencies.

We have access to an SLT/ Radiography led videofluoroscopy service and FEES. There will be opportunities to develop or to use and expand existing skills in instrumental assessment.

Our Service is county-wide with community, voice and acute hospital teams providing a high-quality service to the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We have around 50 clinical staff.

We offer an excellent support network and are committed to clinical supervision and continued professional development. We have regular team meetings and provide in-service training. Patient-centred care is our priority.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside Band 4 SLT assistants, Band 5 and 6 staff and have access to the support of Clinical Leads and Clinical Specialists in a variety of clinical areas.

  • To work independently with adults with a range of acquired communication and swallowing disorders, and their carers.
  • To continue to develop your knowledge and skills which we prioritise through a commitment to CPD in both internal and external training with protected time for CPD / professional reflection / mandatory training. Your development is supported by your annual appraisal and regular clinical and managerial supervision.
  • To work both independently and as part of a team, being part of regular team meetings and contributing to the excellent support network which underpins our Service.
  • To be involved with service / quality improvement projects to develop different ways of working to enhance the care we provide.
