An exciting opportunity has arisen due to expansion of the team for a Band 4 Diana Childrens Specialist practitioner, Special Needs Education.
Monday to Friday, Term Time Only 08:30 15:30
The successful candidates will work as part of the Diana Childrens Community Service team based at AshField Academy special school.
- To work as a member of the Diana Childrens Community Service providing education and healthcare support to children/young people with complex healthcare needs, including life limiting/life threatening conditions within the school setting.
- Provide healthcare and educational support in accordance with the childs care plan/ EHCP/IEP/ statement which has been individually negotiated with the parents/carers/ SENCO
- Support the qualified nursing staff/ SENCO in reviewing each individual childs care.
This post will allow you to work within Ashfield School for pupils between the ages 4 and 19 with a range of special educational needs. You will be working with highly committed staff, governors and parents, carers all are ensuring pupils achieve the very best possible learning outcomes.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be part of a team of Diana specialist practitioners who work alongside educational staff within AshField School to care for young people with complex health needs.
Some of the main duties include:
RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENT CARE
Take care responsibility for the care needs of individuals and groups of clients/service user without direct supervision from a registered practitioner, this may also be as a lone worker or 2:1.
To assess patients well-being and health needs completing relevant documentation and generating referrals as appropriate.
This will include the following assessments: -
temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate,
peak flow
oxygen saturation
neurological observations
nutrition
tissue viability
continence needs
mobility and falls risk
mental health needs/self-harm risk.
Following appropriate training, the post holder can carry out the following without direct supervision:
- Administering medication
- Enteral Feeding
- Nebulisers/inhalers
- Administration of oxygen
- Oral Suction including effective suctioning.
- Care of tracheostomy tube including changing tapes, and full tube changes.
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Overnight saturation monitoring
- Respiratory physio programmes including chest physio, PEP, cough assist and vest therapy.
- Medical Devices Training and competency as required.
