The Community Paediatric Outpatient team deliver a high quality outpatient service and children's phlebotomy service to children across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Children's Community Assistant/Phlebotomist role is to take venous blood tests from children who attend our outpatient clinics, and also to assist clinicians to complete various tests under guidance and supervision from the multidisciplinary team.
As part of this role, you will need to have phlebotomy certification as this is an integral part of the service. Paediatric phlebotomy certification is desirable, but not essential as the paediatric phlebotomy training can be offered to the successful candidate.
We also work with the safeguarding service to complete safeguarding medicals, and to make referrals to other hospitals and services, and the Community Assistant is a supportive part of this service.
We offer this service in a variety of settings to help improve and maintain the health of children and reduce the need to attend a hospital setting for care. We work with children's social care services.

Main duties of the job
- To support the Community Paediatric Out Patient service to provide a high quality standard of care.
- To collect venous blood samples required by clinical staff for pathological investigation for children within LLR.
- Participate in service development and comment on proposed changes to policies or developments for the services
- Support care delivery by undertaking delegated work that is within own level skill and competence.
- Carry out duties consistent with patient /users wishes, maintaining privacy, dignity and recognising cultural diversity and needs.
- Contribute to identification of children in need of protection and ensure appropriate action is taken in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
- Demonstrate initiative when undertaking delegated activities in response to clients needs within context of own competencies, clinical governance and Trust standards and policies.
- To work to agreed objectives, ensuring effective and appropriate communication with team members and other agencies.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and confidential electronic records according to Trust Guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate and up to date knowledge and skills and undertake continuing education to meet personal and service needs.
- Support, orientate and provide peer supervision for new starters within the team. To support phlebotomy training for newly appointed Out Patient/ phlebotomists
You will need to have a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle suitable for work.
