Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist with an interest in mental health and forensic to join our friendly inpatient Occupational Therapy Team at the Bradgate Mental Health Unit, to work on our low secure 12 bed male Forensic ward.

You will be working closely with an Occupational Therapy Assistant to provide a range of Occupational Therapy Assessments and interventions with our patients.

This post is open to newly qualified Occupational Therapists, we will provide you with the guidance and support to build your practical knowledge and skills in the MOHO based assessments and Occupational Therapy interventions. To ensure we provide equity for all patients we offer a range of Occupational Therapy Pathways including Functional/Physical Health/Cognitive/Sensory/Vocational. We work with patients to support their transition back into the community, building a meaningful structure and routine, this could be through vocations of further education, work training projects or other establishments in the community to support discharge.

Working together as a team in this way will ensure we deliver high quality therapeutic care to patients who are experiencing deterioration in their mental health. The remit of the team is to provide a range of occupational focused therapeutic interventions to support the patient journey of recovery from admission through to discharge.

Main duties of the job

You'll have the opportunity to deliver high quality treatment programmes that support recovery of working age males detained under both criminal and civil sections of the Mental Health Act, who experience enduring mental health problems, acute mental illness, and may present with behavioural expression of distress.

The ability to show your leadership skills by working with others to support patients' recovery journey through delegating tasks to the Occupational Therapy Assistant and other members of the team to build and enhance others skills and confidence.

We will fully induct you to the site and service. We will protect and dedicate time for you to access regular supervision from a senior Occupational Therapist plus monthly peer supervision and be supported to develop and enhance your skills through our well-established in-service training.

A car driver is not essential for this post.
